MOVES TO PRIVATE EQUITY
Hedge Fund Firm taps Kapnick for Fund Manager
Highbridge Capital Management, according to inside sources,
has hired Scott Kapnick to head a private equity business.
Kapnick, the former co-head of Goldman Sachs
banking will fundraise and manage two $1 to 2 bn funds
that will handle private equity investments. Kapnick will
first oversee mezzanine
financing for LBOs through a credit fund starting in
the fall and follow up with a private equity fund early
next year. Kapnick served 21 years at Goldman and was a
major force in the firm’s European expansion last decade.
Later, Kapnick was Goldman Sachs International’s co-CEO
before he exited the
firm.
Highbridge, the hedge fund powerhouse owned by
JPMorgan Chase, follows D.E. Shaw & Co. and
SAC Capital Advisors LLC into the world of LBO and managed
debt, making a case for the increased presence of PE in
financial circles.
